Best Practices
Orbital works seamlessly out-of-the-box, but with a few minutes of thought and customization you'll get even better results.
Make the prompt relevant
We provide a decent default, but you're asking for your users' help – so let them know clearly why they're being contacted and what's in it for them.
→ How do I target a specific user segment?
→ How do I configure the initial prompt?
Recruit in-the-moment
As with most things in life, timing is key. Think long and hard about where and when to ask for their time.
→ Where should I trigger the popup?
→ Can I trigger the popup when a button is clicked?
→ I already have a feedback flow – can I recruit on the back of that?
→ Can I implement a triggering delay?
Qualify with a screener
You don't want to waste your time, and neither do your participants. If there's something specific you need to learn, make sure to only ask for time from people who are a good fit.
→ How do I screen participants?
Looks do matter
The more native and on-brand the popup appears, the better your conversion rate will be.
→ How do I customize the popup look and feel?
→ How do I customize the location of the popup?
Ask for just enough time
The more time you ask for, the more likely it is that you'll get no-shows. Orbital does its best to reduce no-shows and provides you (soon) with automated rescheduling, but no-show are fun for… no-one. Keep the call duration reasonable.
Respect participants' time
Once users have scheduled time to speak with you, make sure to show up or reschedule well in advance if you can't make it. If you're tight on time or need to take a break for a coming week, reduce the weekly session quota or pause the discovery.
→ How do I reschedule a session?
→ Can participants reschedule/cancel?
Set proper expectations
Besides making the initial prompt relevant, leverage the event description to provide further context for the call so that the participant is prepared with the correct expectations.
→ How do I customize the calendar event?
Start slowly
After you have the first several interviews that Orbital schedules for you, it's not uncommon to revisit your initial ideas about who you need to speak with, which screener questions make sense, and where to recruit. We strongly recommend starting with a quota of a few sessions per week, and ramping up only once you feel confident that you're speaking to the right people.
